PESHAWAR (APP): Chairman, Breast and Cancer Institute (BCCI) Welfare Society, Professor Dr. Gul Rehman has said that dengue fever is turning people psychologically ill, whose prevention is inevitable.Addressing a function in connection with preventive measures to create awareness against dengue fever here at Sikdandar Town the other day, he said that dengue fever is curable disease and urged the people to pay attention to their treatment instead heeding to the rumours. He said that the awareness campaign would be extended to other districts of the province.He said that according to a report of the World Health Organization (WHO) more than 2.5 billion people in the world have no access to clean and healthy environment and unfortunately Pakistan also facing the same situation, where the lack of cleanliness and better water and sanitations have plunged the people in different kinds of illnesses. He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tops in this regard.Quoting PCRWR Report 2011, Dr. Gul Rehman said that 90 per cent means of water in Pakistan are unprotected and dirty. According to that report the samples of water collected from the tube-wells of Charsadda, Nowshera and Peshawar were comprising dangerous levels of poisonous material and polluted which directly affect the lees of 90 per cent poor population and they were rendered unemployed.Dr. Gul Rehman was of the view that over 2 billion populations in the world have diagnosed dengue fever in 100 countries. The disease, he said affects about 50 million people annually out of which about 20,000 dies due to lack of the medical facilities. But, unfortunately, 70 per cent of such casualties belonging to developing countries of the Asia.He said that dengue fever is not a new disease nor it its limited to only Pakistan, as it is affecting different countries since last two centuries.The chairman, BCCI said that the organization has introduced a modern oxygen electronic instrument, whose usage recover 90 per cent affected people within a short period of two to three weeks. The instrument, he said help in the prevention of dengue fever.He urged the cooperation of the public sector medical institutes, philanthropists, politicians and general public for initiating a joint struggle for creation of awareness in society against the deadly disease.The function was also addressed by vice chairman, BCCI, Engineer Noor Rehman, Scientific Officer, BCCI, Javed Ali and Electronic Engineer, Department of Biology, University of Peshawar, Zahoor Khan and gave presentations on the details of the expected medical camps for the prevention of dengue fever.Beside, health experts, students, ulema, scholars, volunteers and general public attended the function and pledged full participation in the awareness campaign of BCCI against the disease.
