NAB Terms CJP’s Restoration as illegitimate


On the refusal of Advocate-on-record Chaudhry Akhtar Ali, Irfan Qadir himself presented the reply to the Chief Justice. Irfan Qadir said that Supreme Court has no authority to interfere in the matters of NAB and remarks of the CJP and Justice Ramday is similar to interference in the matters of the Administration.

NAB acting chairman and prosecutor general prepared written reply for the Supreme Court in Bank of Punjab loan scam case but Advocate-on-record Chaudhry Akhtar Ali rejected to present them in the court. On his refusal, Irfan Qadir himself presented the reply to the Chief Justice.
Chief Justice directed them to submit the reply in the office and complete the court’s proceeding. It is said in the reply that no court has authority to interfere in NAB’s investigations. In its reply addressed to the CJP, NAB has also questioned the CJ’s restoration in March last year through an executive order of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani by stating, “Neither order is countenanced by the constitution nor the same has any other legitimate basis”.
It is also requested in the reply that petitions against NAB acting chairman and prosecutor general should be rejected as the Federation has authority to appoint them. And Advocate General Punjab cannot interfere in matters of the Federation. Javed Qazi said that Khawaja Haris wanted to interfere in NAB for political interests.
